About Mel Robbins

Melanie Robbins (born on 6th October 1968) is a lawyer, television personality, author, and motivational speaker from the United States. Robbins is well-known for her CNN coverage of the George Zimmerman trial, her TEDx lecture, How to Stop Screwing Yourself Over, and her books, The 5 Second Rule and The High 5 Habit. She also has many podcast programs on Audible.

Robbins was born in Kansas City, Missouri, and grew in North Muskegon, Michigan. In 1994, she graduated from Boston College Law School with a J.D. She married entrepreneur Christopher Robbins in 1996. She has three kids.

Before joining CNN as a legal commentator, Robbins worked as a criminal defense attorney and hosted The Mel Robbins Show on Cox Media Group, Monster In-Laws on A&E, and Someone’s Gotta Go on Fox.

Robbins’ 1st book, Stop Saying You’re Fine: Discover a More Powerful You, was published in 2011. Robbins got the Gracie Award for Outstanding Host–News/Nonfiction in 2014. Her second book, The 5 Second Rule: Transform Your Life, Work, and Confidence with Everyday Courage, was released on February 28, 2017. It was the most-read non-fiction book on Audible and the sixth most-read book on Amazon in the same year. It was selected for Audible’s 2017 Book of the Year in the Self-Development category.

In June 2018, she worked with Audible to offer the Audible Original programs Kick Ass with Mel Robbins and Take Control of Your Life.

She presented at TEDx San Francisco about “The Five Second Rule,” a psychological technique she coined. Her presentation, which garnered over 20 million views on YouTube in August 2019, launched her career as a public speaker. According to Speaking.com, Robbins is the most booked female speaker on the circuit.

The Mel Robbins Program, her syndicated daytime chat show with Sony Pictures Television, debuted on September 16, 2019.
